Providing beautiful outcomes for every skin, giving you all the tools you need and expanding your knowledge throughout the year - treat this ever-increasing clientele with confidence.

Don’t Just Read the Cover!

Just taking into account skin tone – fair versus dark – doesn’t provide us enough information to create an effective treatment plan because as we know, every skin has a much deeper story than what meets the eye.

To truly understand the skin – of any color – and create an effective treatment, you have to go beyond the surface.

When doing an intake consult, ask about heritage - Native American Indian, Asian, Russian, and Jewish descent may show up with a very light skin tone, and yet be genetically-prone to an over-production of melanin activity resulting in unwanted hyperpigmentation.

Knowing a client’s ancestry and understanding the traits of each provides insights that will lead you to an ideal outcome with less risk of complications. We found to this be especially beneficial when working with a very light skin tone – knowing the ethnicity let me proceed with more caution to not over-stimulate.

Beautiful Ingredients for Beautiful Skin

While every client will have different ingredients that work best with their skin type, there are a few intelligent ingredients that generally work with most skins and produce beautiful results. Some include:

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) – an essential protein and powerful cell regenerator that supports cell renewal and wound repair.

Mandelic acid – this is a safe go-to acid that universally may be used successfully on all skins of color. Derived from almonds, this antiseptic rejuvenating acid has lightening and restorative properties.

Daisy flower (bellis perennis) extract – a gentle, yet highly effective natural skin lightener that influences different pathways involved in melanin formation, counteracting age spots and balancing hyperpigmentation. The Naturale Mega Brightening Serum is a powerful formula for antioxidant, rejuvenating and brightening support.

AHAs – naturally occurring, nontoxic organic acids. The most commonly used include glycolic (from sugar cane) and lactic (from milk). Others include malic (apples), tartaric (grapes) and citric (citrus) acid.

Salicylic acid – a beta-hydroxy acid extracted from wintergreen and birch. It is a relatively safe, low-risk acid, as it is self-neutralizing and produces a drying and lifting effect.

Retinol – a vitamin A derivative that converts to retinoic acid and is a DNA regulator. It assists in the synthesis of collagen, aids in the formation of blood vessels and encourages healthy cell formation.

TCA (Trichloracetic acid) – is nontoxic, self-neutralizing and keratolytic, and is very effective in low strengths. It can be used alone or in tandem with other acids. It will penetrate only if it used in an aqueous base.

Melanin suppressants – typically a combination of natural lightening ingredients such as kojic acid, L-arbutin, azelaic acid, L-ascorbic acid. Look to the Rhonda Allison Melanin Suppressant Solution to brighten the skin, and provide antibacterial and antioxidant support, while minimizing PIH during the peel.

Thermus thermophilus ferment extract – a deep-sea microorganism used to fight free radicals.

Resveratrol – a potent antioxidant found in red grapes and wine that delivers polyphenols, anti-inflammatory properties, and UV and free-radical protection.

To produce beautiful results for any skin, of any color, you must go beyond the cover. It all begins with really knowing your client and understanding the different traits of their ancestry. Nail these, and you’ll be on your way developing a strong business for this all-important sector of skins.
