Eczema / Psoriasis

Both eczema and psoriasis present similar symptoms, but there are ways to tell them apart:

Eczema

Eczema causes intense itching, making your skin red and inflamed. It may be crusty-looking with rough, leathery patches, oozing, or even scaly. Common places it appears your body include: inner elbow, behind your knees, neck, wrists, and ankles. On babies and children, it can present itself on cheeks, chin, scalp, chest, back, arms, and legs. Skin irritants such as soaps, detergents, and disinfectants can trigger eczema. Allergens like dust, pets, pollen, mold, some vaccinations, scratches, and some foods can be a trigger too. They may also flare-up due to infections, stress, sweating, heat, humidity, and hormones.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis, on the other hand, might also be itchy and can even burn or sting. Psoriasis can look like red patches like eczema, but turns silvery, scaly, and more of a raised skin that is thicker and tends to be more inflamed than eczema. It often shows up on places like your knees, elbows, scalp, face, lower back, palms of your hands, or soles of your feet. It could even appear on your fingernails, toenails, lips, eyelids, ears, and skin folds. Internal and external triggers for psoriasis include stress, weather changes, medications, cuts, and bruises, infection, alcohol and smoking.
